We believe that children are born natural learners. Two things happen when a child enters into this world: they take their first breath and they start learning as they experiencing the world around them. Children meet their full potential by being given opportunities for new experiences, time to explore and question as well as the freedom to make mistakes!
We believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. There are three elements that we believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide as well as instructor, (2) the child following his/her natural curiosity to direct learning, and (3) respect for all things and all people. Providing children access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use classroom materials reinforcing the lessons creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge.
We believe that children learn best when they study things that are meaningful and relevant to their life and interests. Developing a curriculum around the child fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. When they have ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.
We believe in the value of helping children to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment. Children have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure in what is expected of them. In setting fair and consistent rules initially and stating the importance of every activity, students are shown respect for their presence and time.
